When it comes to understanding which grit size you need your sanding sheets or pads to have, you need to choose between coarse (40 grit), medium (80-100 grit), fine (120-220 grit) or extra fine (440 grit). Coarse sanding sheets or sanding pads are best for roughly shaping wood or to remove finishes such as paint or varnish. Sanding sheets or pads with medium grit are ideal for final shaping or removing leftover marks. Fine grit levels are perfect for final sanding before the completion of your project, whilst extra fine grit levels are ideal for using in between coats of paint and varnish for the best, smoothest results.
